If you think surfing does not require strength or power and are not improving your strength with surfing workouts, here is a video to remind you how powerful mother nature can be. The storm that hit NYC sent cyclone swells all over the globe and surfers tested their skills, strength and lung capacity in massive surf in Tahiti.
A lot of people are training for surfing with indo boards or balance board or performing all their surfing workouts on stability balls. While these are important and very functional elements of surfing I would like to remind surfers that stability and balance are only apart of the surf training equation and cannot not generate power or strength for surfing as other weight training or explosive exercises for surfers can.
Waves are powerful, even small fast breaking waves can generate thunderous powerful lips and pockets (as we all know!) The stronger you get with varied surfing workouts and surfing exercises the better your surfing fitness becomes which may allow you to come out unscathed to surf longer as a surfing athlete.
