Stretching for surfing and improving surfing flexibility and your surf body fitness is one of the easiest and time effective surf training methods to improve your surfing performance.
Throw into your surfing workouts or surf training program both static and dynamic stretching for surfing to allow your body to adapt to the positions that we throw ourselves into when in the ocean. As more and more surfers are realizing it is their bodies that do the surfing; they are also starting to realize stretching for surfing is one of the fastest ways to quickly improve surfing performance.
I thought it appropriate cause the Bells contest is just around the corner to check out the 2011 Bells Beach final between Mick Fanning and Joel Parkinson and watch how their bodies move, twist and rotate and ask yourself how important do you think stretching for surfing and surfing flexibility really is?

This was a great final, for those of you that don’t know Mick has scholiosis of the spine so prior to surfing he often can be seen stretching for surfing and in the first minute of the video at 36 seconds he twists into a nice cutback (good surfer and good surfing flexibility) to set up the inside section. Later on he does a grab rail cut back which unless your naturally flexible without surf stretching you wont be able to get into that position and maintain your speed going into the turn. As for Joel, with good flexibility and fast reflexes he tucks into a barrel and takes the win…. what will happen this year?
PS – the video below has much better angles and music and pits… just because…
