As societies worldwide get sicker, slower and bigger, many surfers are wanting real information on improving their bodies, lives and long term living performance. Unfortunately many of the worlds ‘powers that be’, continue to hide and undermine many facts that can make real differences in millions of peoples lives around the world.
Most surfers that come to see me want improved physical energy and more power. To me, this means improving performance for life, and I think for the most part we (as a society) need to get away from all the marketing and hype around certain diets and drugs that ‘work’ for endorsed athletes or celebrities. I believe in focusing on restoring human function and restoring lifestyles that promote well being without the use of unnecessary pills and potions.
Sustained Surfing Performance for Life Requires Work
We need to focus on what is required for human beings. And if your reading this, your most likely a human being. We are complex individuals yet all of us require specific fundamentals to perform in life. We all need work on real factors that will work for YOU. Your values, your gut, your brain, your body, your biochemistry, your surfing lifestyle. Your way is going to be best for you.
Many surfers have been brain washed (like I was) by ‘health and fitness experts’ to believe the hype that it is ‘healthy’ to run faster, push more, lift heavier, keep going, train like a pro athlete. You get the picture. Being fit, being lean, looking mean, does not equate to being happy and healthy. Many others are of the opinion that more ‘functional training’ is the answer and will ‘fix’ them. (While we are on the subject, ‘functional training’ quite frankly has become a meaningless term in the fitness industry due to a lack of understanding of the fundamentals required to do before implementing functional movement patterns) There is often a complete disregard that human function from the inside must prioritize any performance related ‘functional’ training program.
Human function and long-term human performance is dependent on how all the systems within your body interact with one another and function as a unit. When they do work in concert with one another you will find they synchronize perfectly and symptoms will begin to disappear because human function and what is referred to as, ‘homeostasis’ has been restored. Real performance means Focus on Function First. If this means running some lab tests to investigate what is really going on inside, do it.
Aging Surfers Can Stay Strong and Feel Great
SOME FACTS TO BE AWARE OF…
Fact: A lot of surfers misunderstand what real human function is and how to improve it. Unfortunately this includes many of the very people we go to when we require help; doctors, therapists, trainers, coaches and teachers.
Fact: Function begins inside of you. Restoring function and improving performance also begins on the inside. Not from the outside.
Fact: The medical establishment is controlled by pharmaceutical companies hell bent on continuing to drug and cut people in order to ‘improve’ function. The medical model is rooted in sickness. How many doctors primary goal is to get people off medications?
Fact: Before anyone can improve their own human performance: put on muscle / lose body fat / enhance memory / improve bone density / recover faster / sleep better / over come diabetes / improve heart function, etc. we have to focus on improving the many internal and interactive systems of your body. We have to return the body to a state of normal function. This cannot be done with pills and surgery.
Fact: Many ‘leaders’ still preach that long term human function can be improved following a very engrained medical model based on medicine or surgery. (While medical science is progressive and we have fantastic doctors and scientists around the world pushing many boundaries, I am talking here about chronic diseases like, Diabetes, Obesity, Adrenal Malfunction, Depression, Cancer, Cholesterol, Blood Pressure, Heart Disease, etc) Unfortunately our ‘leaders’ believe in the current medical model of care (pills and surgery). This model over the decades however has done nothing to reduce the rising rates of disease. In fact statistics show that percentage wise, world populations are getting sicker.
Fact: The medical business model doesn’t really want to help people restore function or regain their health because that would affect repeat business and long term revenue. Bottom line – The current medical establishments are lining their pockets with dollars and disguising their ‘sick care’ as ‘health care’. Profits not Patients seems to be their modus operandi. Sad yet True.
FACT: You can improve your body as you age. You can continue to surf and enjoy surfing with friends and loved ones well into your future – and you can continue to catch loads of waves and maintain youthful energy and vitality. I believe it is possible to surf stronger for longer with land based training supplementing your surfing. I also highly recommend looking at hidden internal stress so that you can understand your own physiology and psychology.
COACHING: 99/100 people who ask me for help usually have symptoms they don’t often talk about – (low energy, overweight, fuzzy thinking, poor digestion, belching, can’t lose body fat, low sex drive, muscular aches and pains, etc. etc) Please note that if want to slow the aging process and remain strong, healthy and fit you need to delve into your symptoms FIRST and then the lean muscle, fat loss, healing and energy will follow. If you do not look deeper into the real reasons why you look and feel the way you do, you will never really get the physical results nor the health results that you desire.
