One of the main challenges surfers often encounter is maintaining their surfing fitness during long flat spells or time away from the ocean. Surfing workouts are an extremely effective way to keep your surfing fitness and body up to par for when waves arrive.
I like this slow mo video showing the surfing body of Kelly Slater as it shows that great surfers are strong, dynamic and flexible athletes. Most surfers can benefit greatly from ongoing surfing training and surfing workouts if they spend lots of time in out of the water.
While there are no ‘surfing workouts’ in this video, the angles and photography demonstrate that our sport is truly demanding on the body and we all know that Kelly Slater keeps his body fit for surfing with real surfing – the best functional surfing workout you are going to get. For the rest of us, that perhaps cannot get to the surf very often, I suggest using surfing exercise to maintain your surfing fitness so you are ready to hit it, at all times.
